About Me Blog
Hi! My name is Alex Rentner and I teach high school math at Waubonsie Valley High School. I have been teaching for 8 years at Waubonsie and currently teach Geometry, Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. I graduated from the University of Evansville in May 2009 and got my Masters in Instructional Technology from Northern Illinois University in 2014. Incorporating technology in order to enhancing teaching and learning is definitely on the forefront in education. I have done my best since getting my masters and from my own research to incorporate technology into my teaching, but I know I can do more. My district is going 1:1 with Chromebooks next year and I am excited to learn new tools and get new ideas of things I can incorporate into my classroom to make my teaching and my students learning better.
When I have used technology in my classroom I have used a lot of Google related applications such as, forms, surveys, documents. I really like using the quiz option in Google forms to be able to give my students immediate feedback on how they are doing with different topics throughout the courses I teach. I have worked Google Quizzes into my Geometry curriculum quite often when my students and I are reviewing for targets quizzes. My students really like the idea that they know what they are getting right or wrong immediately so they know what they need to study before the actual quiz or test. I have also incorporated videos into Google Quizzes to help my students review and refresh concepts if they do get something wrong. I have used other technology tools in my classroom such as Kahoot and Quizizz.
I am looking forward to learning more technology tools I can incorporate into my classroom as my district goes 1 : 1 next year with Chromebooks.

Alex, welcome to the learning community of 677. We are glad you are with us. Google tools are great for teachers and for giving students timely feedback. I am loving Quizizz lately - it is helping me keep kids engaged during this madness that is the end of the year!
ReplyDeleteAlex,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I, too, love to use google in my classroom! I teach English at NV, but I haven't administered a quiz through google. I know that we will be moving in that direction, but I don't feel comfortable yet. I have used forms for surveys and student self-assessments.
Alex,
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to learning from you and having some technology and mathematical discussions! So glad our district is going 1:1 so we don't have to push laptop carts around anymore. And it was annoying that every laptop cart had 20 laptops but there were 30+ more students ! I love the tools that you mentioned and I am hoping we learn a few more!
Hi Alex,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I haven't used Google much to create quizzes for my students. I hope I can learn a bit more about it form you. Looking forward to 1:1 next year!
Hi Alex -
ReplyDeleteGood luck next year with the roll out of Chrome books. Hopefully it goes as smooth as Google. Google seemed easy to use, reflect on, and improve on. I hope the beginning of the school year goes smooth and sets the tone for the year.
Good luck and I will miss my DubV people!
Hi Alex! Welcome to engaging e-learning. It sounds like you've got a good footing with some of the google tools out there. I think you'll get a lot out of this course as you prepare to go 1:1.
