Engaging eLearning Artifact #1: Assessment of Unit

The assessment I created for this assigned was on Quizizz.com.  I have used this platform many times before with my students and they really enjoy it.  I especially like the idea that there is the option of doing a game mode or homework mode.  I tend to do game mode if we are practicing in the classroom and homework mode as an assignment overnight or over a weekend.  To go along with the assessment I created a rubric to better help myself and my students understand how they are going to be graded and what my expectations are. Category 4 3 2 1 Process of Solving the Linear Equation Typically uses an efficient and effective strategy to solve the problem (s).  Typically uses an effective strategy to solve the problem(s). Sometimes uses an effective strategy to solve problems but does not do it consistently. Rarely uses an effective str...

Engaging eLearning Artifact #2: Create a Multimedia Resource

This Screencast I made for my students is based on something that they are going to learn in this unit.   This topic of systems with three equations and three variables is very difficult for some students to really get their mind wrapped around it.   Therefore, having a video like this available to them all the time can allow them to go and look at it if they are struggling.   A lot of the time my students tell me they understand this topic in class but then when they go home and do practice problems they do not.   This video can help them refresh the steps of the problem and maybe even help them figure out where they made a mistake.   I can easily post the link to Google Classroom, my website, or email it out to my students for them to access.    This Screencast is appropriate for my student because I made it based on something that they are going to learn in this unit.   This topic of systems with three e...

Engaging eLearning Reflection

At the beginning of those course I was not completely sure what to expect.  The idea of eLearning can be taken in so many different ways that I was very interested to see where this course would take it.           I really liked that throughout the course all the different modules worked on the same unit.  The best part is the unit is actually one I can use in the classroom for this coming school year.  I was able to layout the entire unit and really get a good sense about what I can do online, what I can do face to face and discussions and activities I can use to support my students learning. I am really excited to see if what I developed and made throughout this class will work for my students.           For me this is probably the first of many steps in the direction of some major eLearning. My district is going 1:1 with Chromebooks this coming school year so I think there will be ma...

Artifact #2: Share your Story Newsletter

In module 6 we talked about sharing our story of our classroom and how we communication with parents and our students.  As the assignment for this module I created my first newsletter that I could use for my Geometry class.  Typically I make my connections with parents and students just through emailing and I thought is idea of a basic newsletter would be a great idea and make the communication a little more appealing.  I could see myself using this in my classroom on a weekly basis to give parents an idea of what their students will be doing in class and what assessments they have coming up.  As kids get older then tend to tell their parents less and less, so this would be a great way to get the information out quickly and easily while hitting all my parents at the same time.           I could also see my students using this as a tool to help them review for final exams.  Since you are able to embed p...

Artifact #1: Module 4 Video Advertisement

Not only do I teach math at Waubonsie Valley but I have been the Head Sponsor for Student Council the past 5 years.  When I read though this assignment I thought it would be a great idea to make a video advertisement about all the events throughout Homecoming Week.   I am always looking for ways for all this information to be given out to not only my students, but the entire student body of Waubonsie Valley High School.   I can definitely see this being something I will use when the next school year beings and we get closer to the time of Homecoming.              After completing this assignment I began to think about ways I can incorporate  this idea of a video advertisement in to my classroom.  I thought one of the best ways could be at the beginning of each unit making an advertisement  about what we are going to be learning.  This could be a great way to give my students a...

Multimedia Reflection

At the beginning of this class my hope was going to be to learn about different tech tools that I could incorporate into my classroom to enhance my teaching.  Throughout the course I was very happy to see that that is exactly what was going to happen.  I especially like that not only did we talk/learn about new tech tools, but we actually used them in discussions and assignments.  This really gave me a good idea of what was easy to use in my classroom, what I could use each of the tech tools for, and what would be easy for my students to use without a lot of me walking them through each step.  These new tech tools are probably my biggest take away from this course.           Now that I have all these tech tools at my disposal, I hope to be able to take more advantage of the fact that my school district is going 1:1 with Chromebooks next year and really use these tech tools to enhance my students learning. ...
