Artifact #2: Share your Story Newsletter

In module 6 we talked about sharing our story of our classroom and how we communication with parents and our students.  As the assignment for this module I created my first newsletter that I could use for my Geometry class.  Typically I make my connections with parents and students just through emailing and I thought is idea of a basic newsletter would be a great idea and make the communication a little more appealing.  I could see myself using this in my classroom on a weekly basis to give parents an idea of what their students will be doing in class and what assessments they have coming up.  As kids get older then tend to tell their parents less and less, so this would be a great way to get the information out quickly and easily while hitting all my parents at the same time.
I could also see my students using this as a tool to help them review for final exams.  Since you are able to embed pictures and links they could create different online learning/reviewing documents that they can share among the class and continue to add to when they needed it.  This could be a working document that students can share and continue to add things to as we work through the semester.

  1. Once you have a template of a newsletter set up, filling in the info on a regular basis gets easier. It is like filling in the blanks. The predictable nature of a newsletter like that is appreciated by parents. It is a great idea to have students make Smore projects as lesson reviews. They would be challenged to create something that summarized their learning and provided enough information to study from.
